Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
