The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 Are free of blame, 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
