The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 Why dost thou not bring the angels unto us, if thou speakest truly?' 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
