He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
