The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 The night a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 Recompense fitted! 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste you (the results of your evil actions); no increase shall We give you, except in torment. 30
