The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 Therefore turn away from them; on the day when the announcer will call towards a severe unknown matter – 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters (of the heaven and the earth) met for a matter predestined. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 22
