The Town (Al-Balad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
