The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun shall be darkened, 1 And when the stars darken, 2 And when the mountains shall be made to pass away, 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 And when the wild beasts are gathered 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 For what sin she was killed, 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 when heaven is stripped, 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 Every soul will then come know what it has brought. 14 So by oath of those that revolve. (The planets.) 15 That run their course (and) hide themselves, 16 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 17 and brightening morning, 18 it is indeed the word of an Honorable Messenger, 19 The mighty, the honoured in the presence of the Lord of the Throne. 20 One (to be) obeyed, and faithful in trust. 21 Your companion is not possessed; 22 he truly saw him on the clear horizon; 23 and he is not one to begrudge others the knowledge [of whatever has been revealed to him] out of that which is beyond the reach of human Perception. 24 And the Qur’an is not the recitation of Satan the outcast. 25 Then where are you going? 26 This is naught but an admonition unto the worlds 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
