Mary (Maryam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 Mention of the mercy of thy Lord to His bondman Zakariyya. 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: 4 "And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir, 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' 8 Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". 9 He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. 10 So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon. 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 kind to his parents, not arrogant or a rebellious person. 14 Peace be on him on the day of his birth, and on the day of his death, and peace will be on him on the day he is raised up to life again. 15
