The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And pollution shun. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
