Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 Glad with their endeavour (for their good deeds which they did in this world, along with the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism). 9 in a sublime garden, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
