The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
