In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
