The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Let them eat and enjoy; and let their hopes deceive them, soon they shall know. 3 And every dwelling that We destroyed, had a known decree for it. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old: 10 And not an apostle came unto them but at him they were wont to mock. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 Even if We open a door in the heavens and they ascend through it in broad daylight, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
