He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
