a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
