Hath the story of Abraham's honoured guests reached thee (O Muhammad)? 24 When those [heavenly messengers] came unto him and bade him peace, he answered, "[And upon you be] peace!" - [saying to himself,] "They are strangers." 25 Then he turned aside to his family secretly and brought a fat (roasted) calf, 26 and placed it before them, saying, "Will you not eat?" 27 Then he conceived a fear of them. They said: fear not. And they gave him the tidings of a youth knowing. 28 His wife came forward, crying and beating her face, saying, "I am an old barren woman!" 29 They said: "Thus said your Lord. He is indeed all-wise and all-knowing." 30 ۞ Abraham asked, "Messengers, what is your task?" 31 They said: Lo! we are sent unto a guilty folk, 32 That we may send down upon them stone of clay, 33 Marked, from before thy Lord, for the extravagant. 34 Then We evacuated there from all the believers 35 But did not find more than a single family of believers. 36 And We kept a sign remaining in it, for those who fear the painful punishment. 37 And in Moosa, when We sent him with a clear proof towards Firaun. 38 But he withdrew (confiding) in his might, and said: A wizard or a madman. 39 We seized him and his hosts, and cast them all into the sea: and [none but Pharaoh] himself was to blame [for what happened]. 40 There is also evidence of the Truth in the story of Ad whom We struck with a violent wind 41 It left out nothing in its path, but which it split up into fragments. 42 And in Thamud's also was a lesson, when it was said unto them: enjoy yourselves for a season. 43 But they rebelled against their Lord's decree, and so the thunderbolt overtook them even while they gazed; 44 And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves. 45 And the folk of Noah aforetime. Lo! they were licentious folk. 46
