The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 save those that pray 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
