Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 therein a running fountain, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
