The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 facing one another. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and shade extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
