The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and defilement flee! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He looked (at others); 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
