Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
