The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 arise, and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your clothing purify 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked round; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
