Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And cups set at hand. 14 and arranged cushions 15 and outspread carpets. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
