He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
