The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun is folded up, 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 the mountains are scattered about as dust, 3 And when milch camels roam abandoned. 4 And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together; 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 when the souls are divided into different classes, 7 and when the female infant buried alive is asked 8 for what crime she was slain, 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 and when heaven is laid bare, 11 when Hell shall be set blazing, 12 And when Paradise is brought near. 13 then shall a soul know what it has produced. 14 I swear by the receding stars, 15 Go straight, or hide; 16 by the night when it approaches 17 And the breath of morning 18 That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 [the word] of one to be heeded, and worthy of trust! 21 Your companion is not mad. 22 he truly saw him on the clear horizon; 23 Nor of the unseen is he a tenacious concealer. 24 And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens]. 25 When whither go ye? 26 It is naught but a reminder for the nations, 27 for everyone of you who wishes to follow the Straight Way; 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
