They ask you about "the spirit". Say: "The spirit descends by the command of my Lord, but you have been given only a little knowledge." 85 If We pleased We could take away what We have revealed to you. Then you will not find any one to plead for it with Us, 86 Unless your Lord have mercy. His blessings on you are great indeed. 87 Say: "Surely, if mankind and jinn were to get together to produce the like of this Qur'an, they will never be able to produce the like of it, howsoever they might help one another." 88 We have indeed turned about for men in this Koran every manner of similitude; yet most men refuse all but unbelief. 89 and so they say: "[O Muhammad,] we shall not believe thee till thou cause a spring to gush forth for us from the earth, 90 or that there be a garden of palms and vines for you and then you cause rivers to abundantly flow forth through them; 91 “Or you cause the sky to fall upon us in pieces like you said – or bring Allah and the angels as Witness.” 92 or till thou possessest a house of gold ornament, or till thou goest up into heaven; and we will not believe thy going up till thou bringest down on us a book that we may read. Say: 'Glory be to my Lord. Am I aught but a mortal, a Messenger?' 93
