Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 When I have shaped him, and breathed My spirit in him, fall you down, bowing before him!' 29 Thereupon the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together, 30 Not so Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" 32 "How could I bow," said he, "before a mortal whom You created from fermented clay dried tingling hard?" 33 He said: Then go thou forth from hence, for lo! thou art outcast. 34 "And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment." 35 "O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised." 36 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited 37 till the appointed time. 38 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. 39 except the devoted amongst Your worshippers. 40 [Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight. 41 Over My true servants you will be able to exercise no power, your power will be confined to the erring ones, those who choose to follow you. 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 It has seven gates, and through each gate a portion of them belong. 44
