[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
