Aaron had told them before, "My people, you are deceived by the calf. Your Lord is the Beneficent God. Follow me and obey my orders". 90 They said: we shall by no means cease to be assiduous to it until there returneth to us Musa. 91 Musa said: O Harun! what prevented thee, when thou sawest them going astray. 92 "That you followed me not (according to my advice to you)? Have you then disobeyed my order?" 93 He said: O son of my mother! seize me not by my beard nor by my head; surely I was afraid lest you should say: You have caused a division among the children of Israel and not waited for my word. 94 Musa said: what was thy object, O Samiri? 95 He said, "I perceived what they did not see. So I took a handful [of dust] from the footprint of the Messenger and threw it in [the calf]. That is what my inner self prompted me to do." 96 (Moses) said: "Get thee gone! but thy (punishment) in this life will be that thou wilt say, 'touch me not'; and moreover (for a future penalty) thou hast a promise that will not fail: Now look at thy god, of whom thou hast become a devoted worshipper: We will certainly (melt) it in a blazing fire and scatter it broadcast in the sea!" 97 Your god is only God. There is no other god but He. His knowledge extends over everything." 98 And so We narrate to you the stories of the past, and We have given you a remembrance from Us. 99 Whoever turns aside from it, he shall surely bear a burden on the day of resurrection 100 and live in it for ever; how evil will that burden be for them on the Day of Resurrection. 101 The day the trumpet blast is sounded We shall raise the sinners blind, 102 whispering unto one another, "You have spent but ten [days on earth] 103 We know well what they will utter, whereas the wisest among them will say, “You have stayed just for a day.” 104
