In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
