A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
