They will ask you about ThulKarnain (the pious and chosen). Say: 'I will recite to you something of his story. 83 Indeed We gave him authority in the land and bestowed him the means of everything. 84 And he followed a road 85 Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness. 86 He replied, "I shall punish the unjust ones among them and then they will return to their Lord, who will punish them more sternly". 87 But he who believes and does the right will have an excellent reward, and we shall make things easy for him." 88 Then he followed a way 89 until he came to the rising-place of the sun, where he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no shelter from it. 90 So (it was). And We knew all concerning him. 91 He then followed (another) road 92 Until when he reached (a place) between the two mountains, he found on that side of them a people who could hardly understand a word. 93 They said: "O Dhu al-Qarnayn, Gog and Magog are spreading corruption in this land. So shall we pay you taxes on the understanding that you will set up a barrier between us and them?" 94 He said: "(The power) in which my Lord has established me is better (than tribute): Help me therefore with strength (and labour): I will erect a strong barrier between you and them: 95 "Give me pieces (blocks) of iron," then, when he had filled up the gap between the two mountain-cliffs, he said: "Blow," till when he had made it (red as) fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper to pour over it." 96 Thereafter they could neither scale it, nor could they pierce it. 97 Dhu al-Qarnayn said: "This is a mercy from my Lord: but when the time of my Lord's promise shall come, He will level the rampart with the ground. My Lord's promise always comes true." 98 ۞ And on that Day We shall let some of them surge like waves against others, and the Trumpet shall be blown. Then We shall gather them all together. 99 We will fully expose the view of hell on that Day to the disbelievers, 100 They whose eyes were under a cover from My reminder and they could not even hear. 101
