He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
