The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Their reckoning draweth nigh for mankind, while they turn away in heedlessness. 1 Whenever there comes unto them any new reminder from their Sustainer, they but listen to it with playful amusement, 2 With hearts preoccupied. And they confer in secret. The wrong-doers say: Is this other than a mortal like you? Will ye then succumb to magic when ye see (it)? 3 He says: 'My Lord knows what is said in the heavens and the earth, and He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.' 4 Rather they said, “These are confused dreams, but in fact he has fabricated it – but in fact he is a poet; so he must bring us some sign, like those who were sent before.” 5 Of the villages We destroyed, there was not one that believed. What, will they not believe? 6 Never did We send a message before you but through a man, whom We inspired. If you do not know, then ask the keepers of the oracles of God. 7 We had not made them such bodies that would not eat any food nor were they immortal. 8 Then We fulfilled Our promise to them and We saved them and those with them whom We pleased, and We destroyed those who exceeded all bounds. 9 We have sent down to you a Book which has a reminder for you. Do you not understand? 10
