Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
