The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
