The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 stay away from sins 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
