The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ A. L. M. 1 The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) 2 In the neighbouring land. But having been conquered they will conquer 3 Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoice 4 with the help of God. He helps whom He pleases: He is the Mighty, and the Merciful. 5 The promise of Allah; Allah does not renege on His promise, but most people do not know. 6 They know only the visible worldly life; and are totally neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Have they not inwardly pondered – that Allah has not created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and a fixed term? And indeed many people deny the meeting with their Lord. 8 Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. 9 Evil was the end of the harmdoers, because they belied the verses of Allah and mocked at them. 10
