The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
