And most certainly did We overwhelm Pharaoh's people with drought and scarcity of fruits, so that they might take it to heart. 130 But whenever good befell them, they said: This is ours; and whenever evil smote them they ascribed it to the evil auspices of Moses and those with him. Surely their evil auspice was only with Allah. But most of them knew not. 131 And they said, 'Whatsoever sign thou bringest to us, to cast a spell upon us, we will not believe thee.' 132 Then We afflicted them with a great flood and locusts, and the lice, and the frogs, and the blood. All these were distinct signs and yet they remained haughty. They were a wicked people. 133 And when the wrath fell upon them, they said, 'Moses, pray to thy Lord for us by the covenant He has made with thee. If thou removest from us the wrath, surely we will believe thee, and send forth with thee the Children of Israel.' 134 But when We removed the plague from them till a term which they should attain lo! they broke (the promise). 135 So We took retribution from them. We drowned them in the sea, because they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and were heedless about them. 136 And We made the people who were deemed weak to inherit the eastern lands and the western ones which We had blessed; and the good word of your Lord was fulfilled in the children of Israel because they bore up (sufferings) patiently; and We utterly destroyed what Firon and his people had wrought and what they built. 137 And We led the Children of Israel across the sea; and then they came upon a people who were devoted to the worship of their idols. They said: 'O Moses, make for us a god even as they have gods.' Moses said: 'You are indeed an ignorant people.' 138 “The condition they are in is, in fact, one of destruction – and all what they do is utter falsehood.” 139 Moses said: 'Should I seek any god for you other than Allah although it is He who has exalted you above all?' 140 And when We delivered you from Firon's people who subjected you to severe torment, killing your sons and sparing your women, and in this there was a great trial from your Lord. 141
