Say thou: O mankind! verily I am the apostle of Allah unto you all - of Him whose is the dominion of the heavens and the earth. No god is there but He; He giveth life and causeth to die. Believe then in Allah and His prophet, the unlettered prophet, who believeth in Allah and His words, and follow him that haply ye may be guided. 158 Yet there is a group among the people of Moses who guide with truth and act justly in accordance with it. 159 We divided them into twelve tribes, nations; and We inspired Moses, when his people asked him for water, saying: Smite with thy staff the rock! And there gushed forth therefrom twelve springs, so that each tribe knew their drinking-place. And we caused the white cloud to overshadow them and sent down for them the manna and the quails (saying): Eat of the good things wherewith we have provided you. They wronged Us not, but they were wont to wrong themselves. 160 And when it was said to them: "Live in this land and eat of its produce wheresoever you like, and ask for remission of your sins, but pass through the gates with submission (and not pride), We shall forgive your trespasses, and give to those who are righteous abundance," 161 The wicked amongst them changed what was said for other words. Therefore We sent down upon them from heaven a punishment for their evil doing. 162
