The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
