He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And hath fear, 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
