The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 Recompense fitted! 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
