The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 and the roof uplifted 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
