Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 He verily will be content. 21
