۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 And We bestowed upon him ls-haq and Ya qub as a grandson; and each one We made righteous. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
