The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 and a few from later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
