Those who believe say: "How is it no Surah was revealed?" But when a categorical Surah is revealed that mentions war, you should see those who are sceptical staring at you like a man in the swoon of death. Alas the woe for them! 20 Obedience and modest speech (would have been more becoming). And when the matter has been determined it is best for them to be true to God. 21 If you ignore the commands of God would you then also spread evil in the land and sever the ties of kinship? 22 Such are those whom God has rejected, making their ears deaf and their eyes blind. 23 Will they not then contemplate on the Koran? Or are there locks upon their hearts! 24 Indeed, those who reverted back [to disbelief] after guidance had become clear to them - Satan enticed them and prolonged hope for them. 25 This is because they have said to those who hate God's revelation, "We shall obey you in some matters." But God knows all their secrets. 26 How then shall it be when the angels shall take them away at death smiting their faces and their backs! 27 This, because they were wont to pursue what God condemns and to hate [whatever would meet with] His goodly acceptance: and so He has caused all their [good] deeds to come to nought. 28
